1958 Cadillac Sedan de Ville
Cadillacs were the first cars with tailfins, as from 1948, after being inspired by the Lockheed Lightning P-38 Fighter Jet, by Harley Earl GM's styling guru. This was the first year of the big three, outlandish and pointed tailfins, and the first year for quad headlamps. This car's colour was inspired by a '56 white Cadillac that Elvis Presley bought for his mother. He pressed out a bunch of red grapes on the bonnet and said he want the car that colour and I copied the colour in place of the original black.
1959 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe

No single automotive design better characterises the American automobile industry late 50's flamboyance than the 1959 Cadillac. Incorporated are large tailfins, the highest ever on a production car, twin bullet taillights and new jewel-like radiator grille patterns. The grille and "rear grille" composed of "floating" chrome buttons. There was no hood ornament, only a V on the centre of hood. Harley Earl the designer rarely drew any styling line. The outlandish design was a creation by his team after long lunches with plenty of wine and was followed up to a visit to a brothel. Back at work they were happy and very creative. As the icon of Cadillac this car appears in most Classic Car books and articles as the signature Cadillac.
1960 Cadillac Eldorado Seville
The 1960 Cadillacs exhibited a smoother, more subtle rendition of the styling theme introduced earlier. General changes included a full width grille, the elimination of pointed front bumper guards, increased restraint in the application of chrome trim, lower tail fins with oval-shaped nacelles that enclosed stacked taillights and back-up lights and front-fender-mounted directional lights. Extras: Autronic Eye, Cruise control, Individual front seats 10% of production. Of 1075 manufactured this one is the only one left in Africa. Colour Rose Petal Pink.
1958 Chevrolet Bel Air

After the totally redesigned hot ones, icons in their own right, the '55 '56 and '57 265ci's was Chevrolet's first V8's in many a year. Aforementioned included the so-called tri five's, an enigma Chevrolet appeared with a 283 ci V8 engine. In my eyes one of the most beautiful Chevrolets' ever built. Aforementioned was characterised by sculpturamic gull-wing styling. Dinah Shore and Pat Boone promoted sales of "longer…..lower…..lovelier by far". If she was a lady you would see a perfect body:a cheeky backside, sexy hips thinning at the middle tapering to two nice headlights and beautiful frontal features. Furthermore she is as elegant as a year old filly, and as swift as an Impala. This car won the overall Concours de Elegance at the Milligan Rally 2008.
1959 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe

This is an example of the 1959 Classic Chevrolet "Wings, Glass and chrome" the so called bubbletop. This specific car is one of two left in South Africa. Never in the history of the auto industry, has an automobile manufacturer made so many sweeping changes two years in a row. The 1958 Chevrolet was a pleasing design with rounded corners. While the 1959 Chevrolet was shaped lean, with crisp new contours and beautifully restrained accents. Designed for greater roominess and comfort, engineered for greater safety, economy, ease of handling and smoothness of ride. The 1959 Chevrolet was the last design by the famous designer Harley Earl, who helped pioneer General Motors styling and design studio. Out back the 1959 Chevy has a spread wing treatment and cat's eyes taillights. The rear license plate swivels down to reveal the gas filler tank. Colour Crystal Coral Pink.
1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

A more conservative approach, with "jet smooth" lines, evident with the aircraft inspired side trim. Chevrolet changed much of the bodylines from the wilder '59's. The new look for 1960 suited the glamorous top of the line Impala, as Chevrolet reshaped and separated the "bat wing" tail fins, and added 3 round tail lamps to the rear. The 1960 Chevrolet Impala also became the best-selling automobile in the US, and continued to hold that position for the next decade. Mechanically, 1958 - 60 Chevys were pretty good cars. If he was a rugby player it would be as elegant as a Springbok, as swift as a Cheetah, respected as a Lion, shrewd as a Shark, unpredictable as a Stormer and as strong as a Blue Bull.
